Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia [baˈhasa.indoneˈsia]) is the official language of Indonesia. It is a standardized register of Malay, an Austronesian language which has been used as a lingua franca in theIndonesian archipelago for centuries. Most Indonesians also speak one of more than 700 indigenous languages.
Most Indonesians, aside from speaking the national language, are often fluent in another regional language (examples include Japanese, Sundanese and Madurese) which are commonly used at home and within the local community.

Government
Indonesia is a republic with a presidential system. As a unitary state, power is concentrated in the central government. Following the resignation of President Suharto in 1998, Indonesian political and governmental structures have undergone major reforms. Four amendments to the 1945 Constitution of Indonesia have revamped the executive, judicial, and legislative branches.The president of Indonesia is the head of state and head of government, commander-in-chief of theIndonesian National Armed Forces, and the director of domestic governance, policy-making, and foreign affairs.
